Bariatric Weight Loss Surgery for Morbid Obesity

Weight Loss Surgery

If you are more that 100 lbs overweight; if you’ve tried multiple diets and failed; if you have a BMI of 40 or greater; then Easton Hospital’s Weight Loss Surgery Program is for you. (BMI stands for Body Mass Index. It is a reliable way to calculate the degree to which you are overweight. Click here to calculate your BMI.

Weight loss surgery (also called bariatric surgery and gastric bypass surgery) is often recommended for individuals who have been unsuccessful with diet and exercise. Left untreated, morbid obesity is a significant risk to life, and it can lead to such conditions such as high blood pressure, heart failure and heart attack, stroke, diabetes, certain cancers, sleep apnea, acid reflux, and other medical conditions. It can also be detrimental to emotional and psychological health.

Our program will educate, motivate and assist you with the lifestyle changes that are necessary to be successful with gastric bypass surgery. We use a team approach to prepare you for your surgery. Psychologists, dedicated nurses and registered dieticians are all part of the team who will assist you through your journey.

The Procedure

The weight loss surgery performed at Easton Hospital is called Roux En Y gastric bypass. It is done laparoscopically, that is via several small incisions.

As with any surgical procedure, weight loss surgery may present risks. Ask your referring physician or a bariatric surgeon if weight loss surgery is right for you.

How to learn more

Interested individuals can learn more about surgical weight loss and meet others who have been through the procedure by attending a meeting of The Weigh We Were. This free support group allows interested individuals the opportunity to learn about surgical weight loss and share their experiences. The meetings are regularly attended by our Bariatric Team, including Dr. Aksade.

Meetings are a great way to learn about the lifestyle changes that coincide with gastric bypass surgery. Anyone may attend and pre-registration is not required. Meetings are held the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 7pm in Easton Hospital’s Kroner Auditorium and also the 4th Saturday of each month at 9am in the Beers Education Center at Easton Hospital. Come out and learn if Gastric bypass surgery and Easton Hospital are a good fit for you!
