EASTON, PA; NOVEMBER 5, 2007-----Easton Hospital President and CEO, Cornelio R. Catena, FACHE, has announced that he will be leaving the hospital.  Catena will continue to work for Easton Hospital’s parent company, Community Health Systems, utilizing his specific experience and expertise with large hospitals.  It is anticipated that his departure will be at the end of the year.

Catena assumed Easton’s CEO position in September 2001 and is credited with taking the hospital from the edge of bankruptcy to the efficient, high quality healthcare facility that Easton Hospital is today

“I’ve spent 30 years in hospital administration,” said Catena.  “Twenty of those years have been as a CEO.  I love Easton Hospital and the Lehigh Valley, and I’m proud of how the hospital has progressed during my time here and the accomplishments we have made.  This new position will allow me to take the great successes we have had at Easton hospital and share them more broadly with other hospitals in our system.  I am looking forward to this new challenge.”

Thomas Muller, chair of the Easton Hospital Board of Trustees, acknowledged Catena’s commitment and contributions to the hospital.

“Cor provided positive leadership at Easton during a key time in the hospital’s growth.  He made many contributions to both the hospital and the community, and we wish him well.”

A nationwide search for a new chief executive is underway; board and medical staff members will be involved in the identification of the new administrator.

Easton Hospital is a 369-bed, acute care teaching hospital serving more than 300,000 residents in Northampton County and the five surrounding counties in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.  Founded in 1890, the Hospital has recently undergone extensive renovation and maintains free-standing, fully-accredited residency training programs, an Emergency Department with 35,000 annual visits, and an active cardiac surgery program.  The Hospital’s Eastern Regional Cancer Center is a Fox Chase Cancer Center Partner and one of three facilities in Pennsylvania offering TomoTherapy radiation treatment for cancer.
