History & Legacy

Easton Hospital is a nonprofit system of health-related services that was set up in 1890 and has been serving the Lehigh Valley for over a decade of 125 years. The history of the hospital can be dated back to Dr. Anna M. McAllister, a lady who mobilized the fifty White Kinty Daughters to contribute $ 10,000 to establish the hospital. They bought a dwelling house of John Brown in Easton and converted the house into our first Easton Hospital. The hospital’s bed capacity was only eleven, and it began operations on 20 November 1890 to attend to patients in the community. In the old days, the majority of the patients came with symptoms of rheumatism, typhoid fever, and pneumonia.

The hospital has since expanded over the years right from its early development. Easton Hospital in 1892 invested in an operating room, several private rooms, and the receiving ward. The hospital grew with the growth in the population’s disease burden, health-wise, in order to cater to the region’s health needs. Originally constructed of wood, the facility was converted by 1906 to a more contemporary brick design. Further developments were carried out in the subsequent century, further growth occurred, and during the 1915 fundraiser, the land on which the current hospital is located was purchased. The new Wilson Borough facility was dedicated in 1930.

Easton Hospital has embarked on the process of growth, which is exhibited by new service offerings and structures. In the equal year 2012, it announced the opening of the Health and Wellness Center in the Forks Township, which provides health services such as urgent care, diagnostic imaging, laboratory, mammography, and many others. In celebration of its 125th year, the hospital has set plans for a new intensive care unit, new behavior health care facility, and new extension of the oncology facility.
